Dr. Brian Steele Talks Physician Burnout and Improved ACO Quality

Despite the past few years in healthcare being unstable and uncertain – ACO programs have continued to promote a shift to value-based care and achieve shared shavings. Recently, CHS's Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brian Steele sat down for an interview with Xtelligent Healthcare Media to talk about what ACOs have done for value-based care, what new ACO models mean for the industry and how it all relates to physician burnout.

In addition, he talked about the recently released MSSP performance results and how the program saw savings of $1.6 billion in 2021 and what the future of ACOs may look like as Direct Contracting model plans begin to transition into the ACO REACH model in 2023. "Overall we’re encouraged by the transition,” Steele said. “The change signals further advances in value-based care and it builds upon the lessons from prior models, also placing greater emphasis on health equity and health disparities. Having higher levels of clinical and financial responsibility with ACOs is a critical component to enable the success of models and ACO REACH does that.” CMS has said that with the new model comes a higher level of governance from providers.
