Accountable Care Coalition of Mississippi Generated $17.4 Million in Total Savings for the Medicare Shared Savings Program

The fifth consecutive year that ACC of Mississippi achieved total and shares savings

TAMPA, Fla. and JACKSON, Miss. (Oct. 14, 2019) – Collaborative Health Systems, a WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) company, announced today the more than 340 providers in the Accountable Care Coalition (ACC) of Mississippi generated $17.4 million in total savings for the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) for performance years 2014 through 2018, according to figures released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Shared savings earned by the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) during the five performance years were over $7.7 million.

This marks the fifth consecutive year the ACC of Mississippi, a Medicare ACO created in 2014, achieved total savings to Medicare. The ACC of Mississippi is a community health center-only ACO. In performance year 2018, the ACC of Mississippi generated more than $6.4 million in total savings for Medicare – a 66% increase from performance year 2017 – and $3 million in shared savings, an increase of over 80% from performance year 2017.

“We are extremely proud to have generated total savings for the the Medicare Shared Savings Program and our providers for the fifth consecutive year,” said Dr. James W. Griffin, Jr., medical director for the Accountable Care Coalition of Mississippi. “We are committed to providing highquality preventive care and chronic disease management to Medicare beneficiaries in our ACO and are grateful the program allows us to demonstrate how we as community health centers can provide increasing value, not only to the healthcare system, but our more than 17,000 Medicare Fee-For-Service beneficiaries in Mississippi.”

“The Accountable Care Coalition of Mississippi is demonstrating how physicians can thrive and retain their independence by embracing value-based care that increases accountability, lowers costs and improves quality,” said Anthony Valdés, president of Collaborative Health Systems. “We look forward to our continued partnership as we work with providers to deepen patient relationships, advance care in our local communities and improve health outcomes.”

Medicare ACOs are groups of doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers who come together voluntarily to provide coordinated high-quality care to their Medicare beneficiaries, while avoiding unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors. When an ACO exceeds quality and financial thresholds – demonstrating achievement of high-quality care and wiser spending of healthcare dollars – it is able to share in the savings generated for Medicare.

The ACC of Mississippi is an MSSP ACO focused on value-based healthcare. As one of eight Track 2 ACOs in the MSSP, the ACC of Mississippi shares in both financial savings and risk.
